Parent & Baby Musical Mornings for 3 months to 3 years

Ages: 3 months – 3 years

When: Wednesday & Thursday at 10am & 11:30am

The parent & baby classes are hugely popular with parents in Greystones & Delgany so early booking is always advised. During our musical mornings the emphasis is on developing a strong sense of pulse and intonation. This will be achieved through songs, nursery rhymes and musically orientated games. Musical concepts such as high and low, fast and slow, beat and rhythm are used throughout all of the programs in progressively more complex ways to develop a thorough understanding of their importance and place in music. These classes are beneficial for your child, not just in a musical sense, but also in the following ways: to develop skills in language, listening, gross and fine motor movement, social interaction, comprehension, confidence and cooperation, all of which are necessary for effective learning.

Little Performers for 3 to 6 years

Ages: 3 – 5 years

When: Monday & Wednesday 2.45pm to 3:30pm

Our pre-instrumental classes are centered on the Kodaly Method. Kodaly’s approach to music education is based on teaching, learning and understanding music through the experience of singing. This enables the child to enjoy music without being restricted by the technical difficulties that can be encountered when learning and instrument. During these classes the emphasis is on singing, while continuing with their sense of pulse, through musical games and the use of percussion instruments.

All aspects of a child’s musicality are explored throughout the year from expressing themselves musically through movement, to encouraging listening of various genres of music, from classical to jazz with music from around the world. There is also an emphasises on securing the rudiments of tonic solfa “doh, re, mi…” through singing and the use of hand signs. During the classes’ time is always allocated to music making, where children have a chance to compose music through the use of tuned and untuned percussion instruments, whilst exploring melody, pitch, rhythm, range, tempo, dynamics, structure, tonality, instrumentation, mood, timbre and texture.
